Market position

Exalead is one of the fastest growing search technology providers in the industry. The privately held company has posted double-digit growth in revenue and clients over the past two years, and is on track to match that success in 2008. At the high end of the market, Exalead scored recent successes against Tier 1 vendors such as Autonomy, FAST, Oracle and others based on ease of deployment, use and management and a low TCO that doesn’t compromise performance or functionality. Exalead has simultaneously been winning against Tier 2 vendors based on the sophistication of its features and intuitive but deeply textured user experience, its high performance and its low cost scaling.

This success is due to the uniquely high value of the Exalead offering, with an optimal balance between ease of use and advanced functionality; platform agility and ease of deployment; high performance and a satisfying TCO. It is a balance that promtped Stephen Arnold to name Exalead a “company to watch” in his April 2008 study for the Gilbane Group, “Beyond Search&rdquo
The complete title of Arnold’s study is “Beyond Search: What to do When Your Enterprise Search System Doesn’t Work.” The title aptly points to the widespread and widely known frustration most employees feel in trying to find relevant information inside their own companies.
Employees want a business search experience that is as easy and intuitive as consumer web search, yet rich enough in presentation to satisfy their need for guided navigation and rewarding discovery. Because Exalead is meeting this deep need for simple yet effective search, it has been able to achieve 100% customer loyalty and retention.
Exalead’s end users constitute that thin slice of “satisfied” users in recent market surveys.

Current position and outlook

Exalead will be further heating up the competition, particularly in the US, with the naming last month of Paul Doscher as the new US CEO, some very recent high profile wins, and the deployment of a new information architecture Business Items Management System (BIMS) that is providing a means to simply and rapidly conceive and deploy a new generation of Wide Scope Applications.
Developed by Exalead, its partners, and clients and built on Exalead’s infrastructure-level information access and retrieval platform, BIMS is being used by Exalead clients to collect, enhance and contextualize multi-format, multi-source data to fuel new applications including BI and CRM solutions under development in partnership with LOGICA, Capgemini, PwC, Accenture and others.
Exalead has also scheduled a major version release of both its OEM and standard enterprise products for Q4 2008. This release includes upgrades that will make the value of its offering even more compelling, allowing it to garner an even larger share of the search market.
