Market position

Founded in 2000 by two search engine pioneers, François Bourdoncle and Patrice Bertin, Exalead® is a global software provider in the enterprise and Web search markets. Exalead’s worldwide client base includes 190 companies, among which leaders such as PricewaterhouseCoopers France, ViaMichelin, Air Liquide, GEFCO, American Greetings or Sanofi Aventis R&D. Today, Exalead’s ambition is to reshape the digital content landscape with an industrial software platform, Exalead CloudView™ that uses advanced semantic technologies to bring structure, meaning and accessibility to the extended information data patrimony of each company. Based in Paris, Exalead has offices in Italy, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, and appears via a network of about forty integrators and resellers in about fifteen countries in Europe and over the world.

This success is due to the uniquely high value of the Exalead offering, with an optimal balance between ease of use and advanced functionality; platform agility and ease of deployment; high performance and a satisfying TCO. It is a balance that promtped Stephen Arnold to name Exalead a “company to watch” in his April 2008 study for the Gilbane Group, “Beyond Search&rdquo
The complete title of Arnold’s study is “Beyond Search: What to do When Your Enterprise Search System Doesn’t Work.” The title aptly points to the widespread and widely known frustration most employees feel in trying to find relevant information inside their own companies.
Employees want a business search experience that is as easy and intuitive as consumer web search, yet rich enough in presentation to satisfy their need for guided navigation and rewarding discovery. Because Exalead is meeting this deep need for simple yet effective search, it has been able to achieve 100% customer loyalty and retention.
Exalead’s end users constitute that thin slice of “satisfied” users in recent market surveys.

Current position and outlook

Exalead shows a more than 60% growth of its activity in 2008. Exalead consolidates therefore its presence on its reference market segments while carrying out its projects of globalization.
2008 marked the launching of CloudView, Exalead’s new platform meant for companies and which opens new horizons in terms of development of high added value softwares.
Moreover, Exalead has surrounded itself with active partners who have understood how Exalead CloudView could serve their clients at cost contained, a constraint rather critical in a period of crisis. Capgemini, Sogeti, Logica Management Consulting, ST Groupe, Sedona, Business & Décision, Homsys Group, as well as about fifteen partners in Europe have worked with Exalead on industrial projects in 2008. They have already made of Exalead one of their main technologies in 2009.
Exalead’s strong growth of activity also results from the valuation by the market and the analysts of the excellent quality of Exalead’s technology, unique publisher in France to appear on the Gartner Magic Quadrant, and one of the two “innovators” of this Magic Quadrant. The innovating capacity of Exalead has been recognized as well by Oseo which gave to the publisher the Paris and surrounding departments Innovation Prize during the 2008 edition of the Deloitte Technology FAST50, ranking of which it was otherwise 32nd. Exalead has also been ranked in the EuroSoftware 100 of the top 100 French publishers.
